The High-Precision Surface Microphone Type 40LA is suitable for general measurements on planar and curved surfaces. Typical applications include wind-induced noise analysis on airplanes, in-flight measurements, wind-tunnel testing, and acoustic-fatigue testing. Its broad temperature range makes it well-suited for the aerospace industry. It has a wide frequency range reaching up to 70 kHz and a large dynamic range topping at around 174 dB.
Type 40LA is based on high performance measuring microphone technique, which makes the microphone very precise, robust, and reliable. The microphone is an integrated unit consisting of the microphone capsule itself and a CCP1 preamplier including TEDS2 for easy access of identification data and calibration data. The Type 40LA requires a constant-current power supply, e.g. the G.R.A.S. CCP Supply Type 12AL, or any other CCP compatible power supply or input module.
Close manufacturing tolerances together with the advantages of the TEDS chip, provide the Type 40LA with a high degree of interchangeability; a major advantage which excludes accounting for individual characteristics.
The Type 40LA has an integrated 1.5 m co-axial cable with a microdot connector and is delivered with a supple detachable silicon-rubber fairing.
Because of its lightness, the microphone with fairing can readily be mounted on surfaces using double-sided adhesive tape.
